Our SAS Scholar Athletes – School for Advanced Studies

Junior Isabella Pacheco plays catcher in softball for Palmetto Senior High School while attending SAS Homestead Campus. The team were 2025 GMAC Runner Ups and took 3^rd Place in the District in 2025 and is hoping to go further in 2026.

Isabella plans to pursue a degree in psychology and eventually attend law school to become a sports law attorney. In athletics, my goal is to qualify for states with my team before I graduate, and I plan to stop playing competitively after high

school.

SAS Kendall - Layla Reyhani

Layla Reyhani, a SAS Kendall junior, is a member of the Terra volleyball team that was a District runner-up and Regional Semi-Finalist. Individually Layla is second in the District for digs and is also part of national traveling volleyball team. Layla wants to be a Neuroscience major in Pre-Med and is involved in a very impressive service project with “Safe Haven for Newborns” attempting to save the lives of abandoned babies in our community.

SAS Kendall - Kevin Perez

SAS Kendall junior Kevin Perez is participating in Track and Field (Discuss) for Southridge Senior High this year.

Kevin was 2nd in a preseason meet in Discus, and after only a year of training, he hit 40.13 meters in that preseason Track and Field meet.

Kevin's future Academic goals are to attend a university with a pre law program, and to become a Civil Rights

Attorney. His athletic goals are to reach 45 meters in Discus before the end of this school year, and hopefully secure an

athletic scholarship offer.

Over the summer of 2025, Mateo achieved outstanding athletics results at both the North American and World Championships in the ILCA 6 class. Sailing has been a passion of his since the age of seven, and he is currently a member of the U.S. Youth Sailing Team representing the United States of America at international events.

"Congratulations to SAS Wolfson Scholar David Mateo Coates for an outstanding performance at the ILCA6 Youth Worlds 2025! Finishing 12th overall and as the top American sailor among 140 elite competitors from around the world is an incredible achievement. David reports "a big thank you to @Cabrillo Yacht Club for hosting such a fantastic international event! Over the course of 6 days, sailors completed 12 races, with wind conditions ranging from 6 to 18 knots. David sends out a special thanks to coaches Erik Bowers + Andrew Lewis for a phenomenal job of coaching!!! And Thanks to LYC Sailing Foundation for their support!!!"
